Eat Your Smoothies- How To Create Your Own Acai Bowl

If you’re like me, you’re probably having a hard time even pronouncing acai, so why would you want to create your own bowl? Well, let me break it down for you. Acai (which is pronounced ah-sah-ee) is a small black/purple berry similar to a grape. They’re harvested on palms in Brazil and is one of the newest “superfoods” to break the health food scene.

The acai berry, which has more antioxidants than a cranberry, are also known to promote weight loss and anti-aging. Although currently, there are no studies that prove those health benefits. But there’s no doubt that this exotic fruit definitely makes a delicious and healthy snack in the form of an acai bowl.

The acai bowl is a new trend popping up in cafes everywhere from Miami, New York, and all over the state of California. But if you don’t live in those areas, you can make one at home and it’s just as easy as making your own smoothie. In fact, it’s just like eating a smoothie in a bowl and the fun part is adding all the toppings. All you need are a few ingredients and acai powder, which can be purchased either in the freezer section of a health food store (Whole Foods) or online at Amazon.com.

Creating the perfect texture for your acai bowl is the tricky part. But once you’ve perfected it, the creation process is a breeze. Using a blender, add the acai powder with the addition of frozen banana, frozen strawberry, and milk (soy, almond or coconut). Make sure the end result is a thick consistency that’s smooth and scoopable. Then top off your bowl with your favorite toppings in a variety of fruits, nuts, seeds, and grains. Berry Kiwi Acai Bowl

  • 1 Sambazon Unsweetened Pure Acai Berry Smoothie Pack
  • ¼ cup non-sweetened coconut milk
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 kiwi (set aside a few slices)
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • 1 cup halved strawberries
  • ¼ cup granola
  • ½ tbsp hemp seeds

Blend everything together except for the granola. Once thoroughly blended, pour into bowl and mix in granola, saved kiwi slices, and some blueberries and strawberry pieces.

Mango Pineapple Acai Bowl

  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 banana
  • 3/4 cup loosely packed kale, chopped
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 acai packet
  • 1/2 cup + 1/4 cup granola
  • 1/2 banana, thinly sliced
  • 3-4 strawberries, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh mango, chopped
  • 1 tbsp goji berries
  • 2 tsp cacao nibs
  • 1 tsp hemp seeds

Combine first 6 ingredients in blender and puree until smooth. Pour 1/4 granola into bottom of a bowl. Pour acai blend on top of granola. Add the 1/2 cup of granola plus sliced fruit. Sprinkle with goji berry, cacao nibs, and hemp seeds.

Tropical Coconut Chia Acai Bowl

1 packet frozen acai
1/4 cup vanilla almond milk
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
Toasted coconut for garnish
Raw cacao nibs for garnish
Chia seeds for garnish
Diced mango for garnish
Sliced kiwi for garnish

Combine smoothie packs in a blender with milk, banana, and blueberries and process until smooth. Top with coconut, cacao nibs, chia seeds, and fruit.
